Sugar Grove Corn Boil Committee names scholarship winners
The Sugar Grove Corn Boil Committee is proud to congratulate Riley Vanik and Natalie Paige Barnhart as its two 2017 scholarship winners.
The two student scholarship awards, in the amount of $500 each, will be presented at the Corn Boil opening ceremony on Friday, July 28.
Each year, in honor of Donna Markus, a longtime Sugar Grove Corn Boil volunteer, the Corn Boil Committee accepts applications for the Donna Markus Scholarship. Donna Marcus was the wife of Al Markus. She passed away three years ago from cancer. Donna and Al were big corn boil volunteers. Donna took care of the beer tent and beer tent wristbands. Al Marcus took care of facilities.
The Corn Boil Committee seeks students who are enthusiastic, love to volunteer and have educational goals, even though they may not be ranked at the top of their class.
Qualifications require that students applying must reside in Sugar Grove; be a current Sugar Grove Library, Sugar Grove Corn Boil or other Sugar Grove 501(c)3 volunteer; be a high school senior or enrolled in college; have maintained at least a 2.0 GPA throughout his/her final two years in high school; and be accepted to (or currently enrolled in) an accredited college/university or technical school to which the scholarship will be applied and plan to apply the scholarship to the upcoming school year.
