Join in Sugar Grove Corn Boil's opening ceremony parade

The Sugar Grove Corn Boil Committee invites everyone to join in its kick off parade at 5 p.m. Friday, July 28.

Participants are asked to meet at 4:30 p.m. between the Sugar Grove Fire Department and the Sugar Grove Public Library. The route will begin at Municipal Drive and move south to Bastian Drive. From there, it will head east into Volunteer Park, Sugar Grove.

Children are encouraged to decorate their bikes, wagons and scooters. Parents are welcome to decorate their children's strollers. The parade will also feature a marching band and a procession of emergency vehicles.

The theme of the 2017 Corn Boil is "Celebrating 50 Years! Share Your Memories Through the Years."

This year, the Corn Boil committee has selected Giant Steps Canopy Program as the parade grand marshal. The organization provides support to individuals and families affected by autism. The Canopy program is focused around the needs of adults with autism, providing opportunities that help these individuals interact and engage with others.

The Corn Boil, parade, fireworks presentation and everything that you see at the festival is run and organized by local community volunteers.

The festival is funded by local businesses and individual sponsors.

The Sugar Grove Corn Boil began in 1967. In 2004, it was incorporated as a nonprofit to provide the people of Sugar Grove with a family-oriented community event and to help local vendors and groups an opportunity to raise funds.

Last year, the committee presented checks to 18 local charities donating more than $12,000 into the community.

If you live along the parade route, or if you want or watch the parade, grab a lawn chair and cheer on the parade participants.
