Acoustic performances to close Elmhurst concert series

A young acoustic artist and a fan favorite cover band will close the curtain on Elmhurst's Block to Block Party weekly summer concert series.

For the final week this season, Elmhurst City Centre will bring performers to play from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, at two locations: City Centre Plaza, 147 N. York Road, and Elmhurst 255 Plaza, 255 N. York Road. Concert goers are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs to sit on the lawn at Elmhurst 255 Plaza.

Performing at the Elmhurst 255 Plaza is Rhyan Komsthoeft of LaGrange, an incoming senior at Lyons Township High School. Komsthoeft has been performing live shows since she was just 13. She plays guitar and ukulele, while covering Adele, Billy Joel, Maroon 5 and many other popular artists across genres.

"I like to put new acoustic spins on songs that you hear on the radio," Komsthoeft said.

Along with singing covers of influential musicians, she also writes her own songs.

"Most of my songs are inspired by stories and events that are both personal and from other people," she said.

Closing out the Block to Block Party is a band that helped open the series in June, fan-favorite Milwaukee-based band Wait for Morning. The acoustic trio of Caleb Widmer, Dan Williams and Brian Canright plays upbeat pop/rock and singer-songwriter vocals covering current radio hits and as well as classics. Concert goers can expect the set list to include songs by Ed Sheeran, Tom Petty, Justin Bieber and The Beatles.

Though the concerts bring the Block to Block Party series to a close, music fans can save the date for Rock the Block from 4 to 10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Elmhurst City Centre. The family festival offers music as well as food and drink from local restaurants.

Elmhurst City Centre's mission is to make the downtown a destination for consumers through concerted efforts in marketing and special events, physical appearance standards and improvements, and business retention and recruitment.
