Show your pride at Mount Prospect Downtown Block Party

The Village of Mount Prospect and the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce are presenting the 19th Annual Downtown Block Party Friday, July 21, and Saturday, July 22, featuring live musical performances, food and beverages, and family activities.

"This year's block party marks the midpoint of our centennial activities," said Mayor Arlene A. Juracek, referring to the 100th anniversary of the village's incorporation.

"It is a wonderful opportunity to further connect with our family, neighbors, and businesses as we continue to celebrate all that is great about Mount Prospect."

The free event will be held in the heart of downtown Mount Prospect at the corner of Emerson Street and Busse Avenue, next to the village hall on Centennial Green, 50 S. Emerson St.

The festival opens at 4 p.m. Friday. Rod Tuffcurls and the Bench Press will entertain the crowd with hits from the Beatles to Madonna starting at 6:30 p.m., followed at 9 p.m. by local favorite Sixteen Candles, bringing all the great '80s hits to life. The festival closes at 11 p.m.

The party continues for all ages from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday. Free kids' rides and activities will be offered from noon to 6 p.m. Activities include bounce houses, climbing wall, inflatable giant slide, mini Ferris wheel, and mini merry-go-round. From 2 to 6 p.m., enjoy face painting, ponies, and a craft booth.

The music starts at 4 p.m. with The Good Mondays playing well-known favorites, followed by Suburban Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. The country cover band performs songs from Blake Shelton, Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, Head East and others. At 9 p.m., Boy Band Review plays hits from 'N Sync, Backstreet Boys and New Kids on the Block.

"People love the atmosphere of this successful community event - local restaurants, local businesses, great music and free kids activities all in one place," said Dawn Fletcher Collins, executive director of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce.

Food will include pizza, tacos, gyros, hot dogs, ice cream and cakes. Refreshments will include beer, wine, specialty beverages, soda and water.

Free parking is available in the East Commuter Lot at Northwest Highway and Route 83 and in the Village Hall Parking Deck, 50 S. Emerson St., while train service is a block away at the Metra depot.
