Civil War Days return to Lake County

The Lake County Forest Preserve District will host the annual Civil War Days encampment Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9, at Lakewood Forest Preserve.

Events run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Spectators can wander the camps to see soldiers, civilians and tradesmen at work, then watch as Union and Confederate forces collide in battle, or visit the 1863 Summer Fair and shop at Civil War-era vendors.

Performers portraying Abraham Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and other historical figures will be on hand to give presentations and meet guests. Children can enjoy period crafts, games and a scavenger hunt.

The large scale battle can be viewed from 3-3:45 p.m. Saturday and 1:30-2:15 p.m. Sunday, with narration available on the north side of the battlefield.

Tickets can be bought online or on-site. On-site daily tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 4-17 and seniors 62 and older and free for ages 3 and younger. Tickets are $1 off when bought online or with a coupon available online. A weekend pass is $15 for adults or $7 for youth and seniors.
