The MAC presents New Philharmonic free pre-fireworks concert at Lake Glen Ellyn Park July 4

Maestro Kirk Muspratt and New Philharmonic recently named Illinois Council of Orchestras' 2017 Professional Orchestra of the Year, performs a rousing program of patriotic songs, marches and orchestral works in a free pre-fireworks concert July 4, beginning at 8 p.m., at Glen Ellyn's Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Rd. This concert is presented by the McAninch Arts Center and is sponsored by College of DuPage.

Works scheduled to be performed include John Phillip Sousa's "Semper Fidelis March," regarded as the official march of the United States Marine Corps and his "The Stars and Stripes Forever;" our national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner;" Aaron Copland's "Hoe-Down" from the ballet "Rodeo;" Elmer Bernstein's thrilling theme for "The Magnificent Seven" (1960);" Peter Wilhousky's acclaimed arrangement of William Steffe's "The Battle Hymn of the Republic;" Bob Lowden's "Armed Forces Salute," a medley of military standards including "The Caisson Song," "Semper Paratus," "The U.S. Air Force" and "Anchors Aweigh;" the prologue from John Williams' Suite for Oliver Stone's Academy Award-winning movie "JFK" (1991), Williams' march from the film score for "Superman" (1978), and the "Throne Room" and "End Title" from Williams' iconic score for "Star Wars."

The concert begins at 8 p.m.; fireworks will take place at dusk. Admission to the concert and fireworks is free, however no blankets are allowed on Lake Ellyn Park until the park opens on Tuesday, July 4 at 6 a.m. No sparklers or candles are to be lit at the park. New Philharmonic is the professional orchestra in residence of the McAninch Arts Center (MAC) located at 425 Fawell Ave. at College of DuPage.
