Travel 'Through the Looking Glass' in Elgin

"Through the Looking Glass," a musical fantasy from London's International Theatre and Music, will be brought to the stage by Children's Theatre of Elgin/Fox Valley Theatre Company for six performances June 16-25 at the Elgin Community Arts Center's Blizzard Theatre.

The whole family will love this magical musical based on the sequel to Lewis Carroll's classic novel "The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland."

In this story, Alice's tumble through an enchanted mirror takes her to a strange world turned upside down, filled with wordplay, swordplay, music and a host of new but very familiar characters like Humpty Dumpty, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, the Jabberwocky, and the White Knight.

Audiences will journey through the Looking Glass world with Alice as she tries to discover who she really is and escape the wrath of the Red Queen.

Elgin native and professional actor Andy Bero directs this tale. He shared this new piece has offered a uniquely challenging and rewarding experience for the students.

"Our actors, ranging between 6 and 19 years, come to every rehearsal excited to create a new world filled with hilarious characters, talking animals, and one angry Red Queen," Bero said. "I feel honored to work with a talented artistic community who demonstrates excellence with every note, step, and line."

"Through the Looking Glass" performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, June 16, 17, 23, and 24, and Sundays, June 18 and 25, at the Elgin Community College Arts Center Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Building H, Elgin, Illinois.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. To purchase tickets, contact the Arts Center Box Office at (847) 622-0300 or elgin.edu/arts. Tickets are also available at the door.
