Volunteers needed to help feed students summer lunches

The South Elgin Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help serve prepackaged lunches to children during the summer.

One in 5 children locally doesn't have enough to eat. During summer, this means many children go hungry who typically get a lunch at school.

The South Elgin Food Pantry is continuing the Summer Food Program to provide at least one nutritious meal to children up to 18 years of age throughout the summer.

Pre-made meals are provided through the Northern Illinois Food Bank and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Lunches will be served to local children at two South Elgin sites from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Meals will be given out June 5 to Aug. 11 at Community United Methodist Church, 400 W. Spring St., South Elgin; and June 6 to Aug. 12 at Sperry Park, 800 N. Michigan Ave.

Please help them feed these children. They are looking for three people per day to help pass out the lunches. If one adult is available, teenagers could help.

Volunteer one day a week, once every other week, once a month, any amount would be much appreciated.
