New historical signs along Prairie Path in Lombard

New historical marker signs have been placed along portions of the Illinois Prairie Path thanks to the efforts of the Lombard Historic Preservation Commission and Local Landmarks Committee, working in partnership with the Prairie Path board and DuPage County.

The signs officially were unveiled Friday at the southeast corner of Main Street and the path, which once was the route of the Chicago, Aurora, Elgin Railroad.

The signs are at four spots along the trail where train stations once stood, marking the locations of Green Valley Station near Brewster Avenue, the Main Street Station near Main Street, the Stewart Avenue Station near Stewart Avenue and the Westmore Station near Westmore-Meyers Road.

They include images of the original stations that are no longer standing and information about the CAE Rail that once traveled from Chicago to Aurora and Elgin.
