Sister celebrates 75th Jubilee
Sister Christine Nowak is celebrating 75 years with the Sisters of St. Joseph, Third Order of St. Francis, at a celebration June 10 at Clare Oaks in Barlett.
A native of Chicago, Sister Christine entered the Community in 1941. Her teaching career took her to Illinois, Nebraska and Michigan. After completing a master's degree in English at DePaul University, Chicago, and completing journalism courses at Marquette University, Milwaukee, she taught English and led the production of yearbooks at Lourdes, St. Barbara and St. Mary of Perpetual Help high schools, all in Chicago.
Sister Christine also earned a certificate in archival administration from Wayne State University, which led to her role in establishing the archives of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Third Order of St. Francis, in South Bend, Indiana.
In 1978, she began a ministry in pastoral service. She retired in 2001 and lives in Bartlett.
The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Third Order of St. Francis, founded in 1901, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, is a Franciscan community of about 300 sisters and associates.
The members serve in diverse ministries across the United States and South America. The Franciscan Community also will be celebrating Jubilees at congregation homes in Stevens Point and Marymount, Garfield Heights, Ohio.
