Elgin
• An Elgin man was accused of drunken driving after he rear-ended another car at 2:30 p.m. Monday at State and Locust streets, police said. Nicholas Aleman, 38, of 635 Cookane Ave., was charged with three counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol and two counts of drunken driving, police said. He also was cited for driving while license suspended, no insurance, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and disobeying a no passing zone, police said. According to the Kane County state's attorney's office, Aleman has 26 previous convictions, mostly for minor traffic offenses. Aleman was held in the Kane County jail on $25,000 bond with a Dec. 26 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• An Elgin man was accused of drunken driving and a hit-and-run accident at 6 p.m. Monday on the 500 block of Trout Park Boulevard, police said. Ramon Garcia, 24, of 792 Stewart Ave., was charged with two counts of drunken driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving without a license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper passing on the right, police said. Garcia posted $300 bond was given a Dec. 27 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center.
• Police received a report at 9:30 p.m. Monday of at least two shots fired on the 1000 block of Mulberry Lane.
Kane County
• A Gilberts woman was accused of shoplifting Thursday at Von Maur, 3810 E. Main St., St. Charles, police said. Mireya M. Valdez, 50, of 426 Towne St., was charged with felony retail theft, police said. A report said Valdez took $441.50 worth of clothing from the Charlestowne Mall business.
Sleepy Hollow
• A homeowner on the 500 block of Joy Lane gave a contractor $4,500 on July 20 to do repair work on his basement. The homeowner says the work was never done and the contractor appears to have left the area, possibly for Florida. A warrant has been issued for John A. Brewer, 33, of 128 Patricia Drive, Schaumburg, on a charge of home repair fraud. Attempts to reach Brewer by the homeowner have been unsuccessful since the money was paid to him.
• Police were called to the Spring Hill Apartments at 5:06 a.m. Sunday when someone stole a wallet. Police found a teen in the hallway holding a case of beer who was bleeding from his head. While the teen was being questioned, he grabbed a police officer by the neck. Christopher Crank, 19, of 922 Locust #1M, Sleepy Hollow, was charged with battery, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, police said. He was taken to a local hospital for his head wound and his bond was set at $500. The missing wallet was located before police left, but the money from inside was gone.
