Well, "hooray" for the Dawn Sherman era, as we in this area are very familiar with her father and his beliefs. Maybe he and daughter can take God from public places, but they can't take God from our hearts and lips. They can take a nativity scene and crosses from public places, but they can't stop Christians from displaying them in their own yards.
I'm hoping the fans at the Buffalo Grove High School homecoming do as Cub fans recently did at Wrigley. They did not approve of the organization's choice of Bob Uecker, the Milwaukee Brewers announcer, singing their 7th inning ritual, so they didn't sing. But, they then spontaneously sang "Take Me out to the Ballgame" a cappella. I agree with Air Force veteran Kevin Cuttone, who is not happy to eliminate "God Bless America." He feels the song deserves to be heard, especially when there is a war going on.
Maybe Dawn can officially stop the tribute to America, but can she stop all the God-loving and America-loving people attending the football game from spontaneously singing it a cappella? This is still a country of free speech and free song, and Dawn could just sit there mute, cover her ears or go get a hot dog. She still has a choice, and so should we. God Bless America.
