A 52-year-old Nicor worker was killed when he was pinned under the ditch-digging machine he was operating after it was struck by a truck in Naperville.
The accident occurred about 5 p.m. Monday on Leverenz Road, just east of Book Road.
Gary Cichy, 52, of Hinkley, died Monday evening at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Naperville fire officials extricated Cichy from a "Ditch Witch" that may have been sticking into the road.
Fire officials say the Ditch Witch was struck by a truck, flipping the machine over and pinning Cichy between the machine and the ground.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to free Cichy. Unable to bring in an emergency helicopter due to the weather, He was taken to Edward Hospital, where he died shortly after arrival.
Will County Sheriff's police are investigating the accident.
