Four people were injured in a three-vehicle accident on Randall Road in Algonquin Friday that caused 30 frozen turkeys to slide around on the road, officials said.
Police said emergency crews were called to the accident at Randall Road near Harnish Drive at about 5 p.m. Friday where an unidentified 18-year-old woman driving a 2004 Cadillac Escalade rear-ended a Dodge Dakota, officials said.
The Dakota then lurched forward due to the impact and hit a Pontiac Grand Prix, officials said, while 30 frozen turkeys in the bed of the Dakota spilled across the busy road.
The 18-year-old driver, her 17-year-old passenger - both from Algonquin - and a 50-year-old East Dundee woman in the Grand Prix were taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin. The 49-year-old woman from Lake in the Hills driving the Dakota was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, officials said.
While emergency crews attended to the injured, police picked up the frozen turkeys, officials said. Randall Road was closed in both directions for about 45 minutes while police recovered the frozen fowl, officials said.
The driver of the Escalade was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving without insurance.
