The Schaumburg man who police say barricaded himself in his apartment Thursday was charged again Friday after allegedly ripping down doors in the apartment and rushing an officer responding to the scene.
Edward Gonzalez, a hospital security guard, was ordered held on $15,000 bond Saturday morning for felony and misdemeanor charges stemming from the latest incident.
The 42-year-old from the 1900 block of Evening Song Court was arrested Friday night after police responded to calls of a disturbance at his apartment after 8:30 p.m., according to Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman.
Gonzalez's wife of seven years told officers at the scene her husband broke two internal doors and two bi-fold doors at their apartment, Klugman said.
The responding Schaumburg police officer said Gonzalez pushed him in the chest and "charged" him after being questioned about the alleged incident, Klugman said.
Gonzalez now faces one felony count of property damage and two misdemeanors for battery and resisting a police officer in addition to the misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct he received after a standoff with Schaumburg police Thursday.
That day, Schaumburg police responded to a report of gunshots heard in Gonzalez's apartment. Police say they established a perimeter around the building and made phone contact with Gonzalez, but he refused to leave the apartment.
A regional SWAT team was called in and Gonzalez surrendered at 6:15 p.m. after a more than three-hour standoff.
Police said Friday they were not able to find evidence that Gonzalez possessed or fired a gun. He posted $100 cash on the misdemeanor charge and was released from jail early in the morning on Friday.
On Saturday morning, Cook County Circuit Court Judge Joel Greenblatt gave him a $10,000 bond on the new charges, meaning he would have to post $1,500 to get out of jail as the case moves forward.
Cook County Assistant Public Defender Felicia Weiss told Greenblatt that Gonzalez was previously an Oakton police officer for three years and that he currently works security at a hospital, which she later refused to name.
Gonzalez didn't immediately post bond on Saturday.
