A former Chicago police supervisor's trial on charges that accuse him of lying about the torture of suspects has been delayed until after his cancer treatments.

Jon Burge's trial was postponed Thursday from Jan. 11 until May 10.

Federal Judge Joan Lefkow acted reluctantly, saying Burge could be in a weakened state after his treatment for prostate cancer and the trial might have to be postponed again.

Burge accused of lying in written answers in a civil lawsuit. In those answers, he said he knew nothing about practices such as "bagging." That's putting a suffocating plastic typewriter cover over a suspect's head to make him confess.
