CARLOCK -- Authorities in central Illinois are investigating reports that a school bus monitor picked up a 5-year-old boy and dropped the child on his head.
Superintendent Gary Niehaus says the incident reportedly happened on a school bus heading to Carlock Elementary School on Tuesday.
The boy's mother says her son bumped the monitor, who was walking in the aisle. She says that's when the monitor picked the boy up by the feet and dropped him head first onto a seat.
Niehaus confirms that's what happened, based on video from the bus and reports from staff.
The superintendent says the district won't tolerate such actions and the bus monitor has been suspended.
Authorities say the 55-year-old monitor has also been charged with battery.
