The death of an Elgin infant this week is now the subject of a Department of Children and Family Services investigation.

Six-week-old Armando Ruiz died at 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

"We are investigating an allegation of abuse," children and family services spokesman Kendall Marlowe said Wednesday. "We've had no prior contact with the family. There are no other children in this family."

The Department of Children and Family Services and the medical examiner's office did not disclose the circumstances of the infant's death. Elgin police could not be reached for comment.
