A 17-year-old Aurora resident was charged with felony criminal damage to property after jumping out of a moving car to elude police and then watching the vehicle strike a church garage, authorities said Wednesday.
Roosevelt Yankaway, of the 1200 block of Nantucket Drive, also was charged with obstructing a peace officer and multiple traffic citations, Sgt. Tom Kirby said.
Officers saw Yankaway driving recklessly through a parking lot about 5 p.m. Monday, prompting police to turn on their emergency lights and initiate a traffic stop, Kirby said.
The offender drove away from police and then jumped out of the moving car near the 300 block of South Lake Street, Kirby said.
The car kept rolling and hit a garage attached to a church, causing roughly $10,000 damage.
Yankaway was not hurt, Kirby said.
