North Chicago death investigated
North Chicago police are investigating the circumstances of the death Monday of a 24-year-old man who was struck by a vehicle near his home.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Ernesto Ortiz, of the 2000 block of Kemble Avenue, was struck about 5:50 p.m. Ortiz was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan where he was pronounced dead of multiple internal injuries about an hour later.
"Police are investigating whether this was an intentional event," Keller said. "Somebody may have intentionally run him over."
Police were not immediately available Tuesday afternoon to discuss the incident.
