USO-style night

Get "In the Mood" to dance the night away at the American Legion Hall, 22 S. Second St., Geneva, at 7 p.m. Saturday with a 1940s-style USO party. It marks the closing of the Geneva History Center's "Faces of War" exhibit on Nov. 13. Tickets are $15 for center members and $20 for others; $5 discount for those in military uniform. There will be a cash bar. Call (630) 232-4951 for reservations.

Civil War rite

The 8th Illinois Cavalry Civil War re-enactment regiment will have a Veterans Day service at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Newton War Memorial in the Batavia West-Side Cemetery, Route 31 and Morton St. Nine men from Batavia served with the 8th from 1861 to 1865. The service will visit the grave of one of them, Davis Gillot.

Help nursing home

Provena Geneva Care Center has a fundraising dinner and auction at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Banquets on Route 25 in Batavia. The buffet opens at 5 p.m., there is a silent auction from 5 to 9 p.m., and a live auction to wrap up. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. In the past, the event has helped finance the purchasing of wheelchairs, interactive games and off-site activities.
