More than 400 students and staff from all the District 211 buildings braved the 30-degree morning Oct. 18 to walk for charity.

Students and staff at each District 211 building chose to support a specific charity, which culminated Oct. 18 with a districtwide, 2.5-mile charity walk that started at the Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, and wound through the Spring Valley Nature Center.

Immediately after the walk, participants were treated to a pancake breakfast at Conant High School with celebrity chefs and servers from the District 211 school board and teachers union.

The local charities being supported include:

• Palatine High School: Donations support the Palatine Family Crisis Fund.

• Fremd High School: The "Go Green" donations support a local environment cause to be chosen by the school's Environmental Club.

• Conant High School: Donations support Cougars in Need.

• Schaumburg High School: Donations support the SHS Magic Closet.

• Hoffman Estates High School: Donations support Hawks Help.

• District 211 Academy-North: Donations support The Bridge Youth and Family Services.

• District 211 Academy-South: Donations support Shelter Inc.

• District 211 Administration Center: Donations support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
