The Veterans of Lake Barrington Shores in Lake Barrington hosted a gathering for its members Tuesday Oct. 6.
Highlight of the evening's activities was the awarding of a prize donated by Lake Barrington Shores resident and veteran Ed Donahoe to Iraq war veteran Kyle Storzbach and his wife Krystal, residents of Barrington.
Kyle Storzbach was an Army medic in the 201st FSB, 3rd Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division. He was stationed in Balad and Fallujah during his tour.
Originally, the prize had been graciously donated by Ed James of the E.R. James Company, and won by Donahoe at a previous meeting. Donahoe felt that it would be better utilized if it could be given to a returning Iraqi serviceman and family. The Storzbachs will enjoy a weekend in Door County sometime in the spring.
Kyle Storzbach spoke to the 45 assembled members about his role while on tour and some of the conditions he faced in that hostile environment. There were many questions asked by members interested in various aspects of military life in today's conditions.
