An afternoon fire in Roselle killed two dogs and two cats Saturday.

No other injuries or fatalities were reported.

The Roselle Fire Department received a 911 call about 2:37 p.m. for a fire at 334 Rodenburg Rd., according Shift Cmdr. David Gnadt. The townhouse was unoccupied.

Firefighters had the blaze extinguished at 3:11 p.m. but heat and smoke caused damage throughout the entire home, Gnadt said. There was also minor damage to an adjacent home.

Investigators are still working to determine what started the fire but do not currently suspect arson. Roselle firefighters were assisted by Itasca, Bartlett and Hanover Park fire departments.
