On Tuesday, Nov. 3, University of Cincinnati professor Mark A. Lause will explore the links between radicalism, reform, and racialized interactions among blacks, Indians and whites against the backdrop the American Civil War during a free lecture from 11 a.m. to noon in the Elgin Community College Advanced Technology Center auditorium, 1700 Spartan Drive.

His lecture, "Race and Radicalism in the American Civil War and Beyond," will document the efforts of radical followers of abolitionist John Brown to construct a portion of the Federal Army of the Frontier that included black, Indian and white soldiers.

The army fought side-by-side and achieved remarkable successes in the field.

His books on the Civil War include "Young America: Land, Labor, and the Republican Community," "The Civil War's Last Campaign: James B. Weaver, the Greenback-Labor Party and the Politics of Race and Section," and current books, "Race and Radicalism in the Union Army" and "The Antebellum Political Crisis and the First American Bohemians."
