Elgin

• Marvin Miller, 34, a homeless man living in Elgin, was charged Thursday with possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of a converted vehicle, both Class 2 felonies that carry a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine. Police said Miller was driving a 2002 Dodge Stratus in the 100 block of Kimball Street that had been reported stolen in Chicago Oct. 20. Kane County Judge Bruce W. Lester set Miller's bond at $50,000. He is due in court Nov. 20 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

• Jairo Lopez, 29, of the 200 block of South Lyle Avenue, Elgin, has been charged with aggravated DUI and possession of a fraudulent identification card, both of which are Class 4 felonies. Police said that on Thursday he was driving under the influence of alcohol without a valid driver's license and that he was carrying a phony Illinois identification card. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is due on court Nov. 10 at the Kane County Judicial Center. Prison sentences for Class 4 felonies range between one and three years.

• Catherine M. Cymbalisty, 22, of the 1500 block of Silver Stone Lane, Carpentersville, was charged with misdemeanor battery after she punched a woman in the face during an early Friday morning bar altercation over a man in the 2486 block of Bushwood, police said. Her next court date is 9 a.m. Dec. 4 at the Elgin Branch Court.

• A 1994 black Acura Integra was reported stolen Thursday between 9:50 and 11 p.m. from the Blackhawk apartments in the 900 block of Congdon Avenue, police said.

• Someone tried to cash a fraudulent check at a liquor establishment Thursday in the 0-100 block of Clock Tower Plaza at 8:45 p.m., police said. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old white man standing at 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with reddish brown hair and a thin beard.

• A white Trek 26 men's mountain bike was stolen Wednesday evening from a bike rack attached to a Toyota Rav parked in the 1000 block of Summit Street, police said. Reports said the bike had been padlocked to the rack.
