Town: Addison

Success story: Bumped up reading scores by 14.2 points and math scores by 10 points this year.

How'd it do that? Mandatory summer school sessions and interventions for students that enter high school behind grade level in reading. Team teaching for freshmen and sophomores, where certain teachers see the same students progress through classes.

What it plans for next year: To continue improving scores in reading and math by 10 points.

"We pay attention to what we need to do. We've been doing this since 2001. I think it's a great thing."

- Principal Scott Helton
