An 18-year-old Arlington Heights man was charged with a felony in connection with a nighttime robbery of a 16-year-old girl near a park in his hometown.
Timothy Marszalek, of the 1500 block of West Richmond Street, was ordered held on $75,000 bond by a Cook County judge Saturday. He is charged with felony aggravated robbery.
Marszalek approached the 16-year-old girl in the 2200 block of Windsor Drive, near Lake Arlington Park, at 11 p.m. on Oct. 12 and demanded her purse while claiming to have a Taser in his pocket, said Cook County State's Attorney Bill Cotter.
When the girl refused, Cotter said, Marszalek threatened to shoot her and claimed to have a gun. The girl then put the purse on the sidewalk and escaped on a bicycle, Cotter said.
Cotter said Marszalek later used the girl's debit car at a grocery store, and that Arlington Heights police were able to track him down from video taken at the store. Cotter said officers recognized Marszalek from a previous arrest.
Marszalek was also ordered held on a $20,000 bond Saturday for a warrant stemming from an alleged violation of a conditional discharge on a battery case. He will have to post $9,500 to get out of jail as the case moves forward.
