An 84-year-old St. Charles man is dead after a head-on crash in Geneva Saturday.

Walter Lohmeyer was pronounced dead at Delnor Hospital shortly after 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Geneva Police Cmdr. Julie Nash said Monday.

Police said Lohmeyer was heading west on Route 38 when a female driving east crossed the center line into the westbound lane, hitting signs, the median, then the blue pickup driven by Lohmeyer at Old Kirk Road. A third vehicle, heading west, was also damaged when it drove into the median to avoid being struck by the female driver. The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.

Nash said the woman driving the Mini Cooper was taken to Delnor after the accident with leg injuries. Her condition remains unknown.

Police have not filed charges in the crash, and are still investigating why the female crossed the center line, Nash said Monday night.

Investigators shut down westbound Old Kirk Road for about an hour after the accident.
