LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Kentucky pilot died after a single engine plane crashed on a golf course northeast of Louisville early Thursday morning, federal aviation officials said.

Jefferson County Deputy Coroner Jack Arnold said 25-year-old Evan Freeman of Louisville died in the crash.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said no one else was on board the Beechcraft Bonanza plane.

The pilot reported engine trouble just before losing contact with the airport, Bergen said.

"Obviously, that's one of those things we'll look at," Bergen said.

Bergen said searchers located the downed plane just after 6 a.m. near the border of Tom Sawyer State Park and Indian Springs Golf Club, about six miles northeast of Bowman Field.

The plane left Chicago's Midway Airport and was headed for Bowman Field, a small airport that serves mostly smaller aircraft. Bergen said the plane was registered to Tfb Aviation of Mingo, Iowa.

Bergen said Tfb Aviation was not register with the FAA. There was no phone listing for Tfb Aviation in Mingo, which is about 30 miles northeast of Des Moines.
