Lombard police are searching for two men who bound an employee and robbed the McDonald's inside Yorktown Center early Monday morning, police said.
About 5 a.m., a female McDonald's employee arriving at work was confronted by two men with wearing ski masks and armed with handguns, Lombard Deputy Police Chief Dane Cuny said. After restraining the woman inside the restaurant, the offenders took an undisclosed amount of money and fled, police said.
The employee, who suffered no injuries, was discovered minutes later by a customer who then contacted police, Cuny said.
Cuny couldn't recall a prior incident of similar nature at the mall.
"We have significant leads with this investigation," Cuny said. "We are actively pursuing those leads as we speak."
Yorktown Center opens at 6 a.m. for walkers, and 9 a.m. for shoppers during the holidays.
Mall officials wouldn't comment on the incident because of the ongoing investigation.
