A wave of Democratic energy was not enough to wash over the McHenry County peninsula held by Mike Tryon.

The Republican on Tuesday won his third, two-year term for the 64th State Representative District, according to unofficial election results.

With all 93 precincts reporting, Tryon garnered 63 percent of the vote to defeat Democrat Robert Kaempfe.

Tryon, who also served on the McHenry County Board for some 16 years, said he was humbled and honored that voters selected him for another term.

"It really comes down to working hard and connecting with your communities and voters," said Tryon, of Crystal Lake. "I think we ran an awesome campaign. I think we have an educated constituency. I think they know when you're working hard and representing them well."

Tryon said that during the next two years, he work to secure funding for Route 47 and the Algonquin bypass.

He said all lawmakers need to work toward a comprehensive road construction plan.

Tryon said another priority is ensuring local school districts receive adequate state funding if property values decrease.

The district includes Algonquin, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake and parts of Cary and Fox River Grove.
