Mary Donner, a Republican from Crystal Lake, won re-election in District 3 of the McHenry County Board.

Incumbent Nick Provenzano, a Republican from McHenry, lost to Democratic challenger Kathleen Bergan Schmidt of Crystal Lake.

Donner earned 10,718 votes, followed by Bergan Schmidt with 9,513 and Provenzano with 9,227 votes, according to unofficial totals.

During the campaign, Bergan Schmidt said she hoped to bring more ideological diversity to the board, while Donner and Provenzano said the board clashed over many issues, even though 23 of 24 members were Republicans.
