Democratic challenger Christina Castro has won the seat in Kane County Board's 20th District. According to unofficial totals, Castro earned 2,147 votes, followed by Republican incumbent Shirley Rauschenberger with 1,273 votes and Green Party candidate Julie Schmitt with 275 votes.

Castro, a 30-year-old marketing and communications assistant at Elgin Community College, listed transportation high on the list of concerns during the campaign, but also said she wanted to scrutinize the county budget.

District 20 covers parts of Elgin's east side, bordered by the Fox River, I-90, the county line two blocks east of Liberty Street and Highland Avenue and Laurel streets.
