Hoffman Estates

• Someone broke into a 2009 Toyota Camry on the 2100 block of Hassell Road between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 29 and 7:25 a.m. Oct. 30 and stole a GPS unit and MP3 player. Total loss was estimated at $650.

• Burglars broke into a 2007 Ford parked at a hotel on the 4800 block of Hoffman Boulevard overnight Oct. 28-29; a GPS unit and wallet were stolen. Total loss was estimated at $400.

• A 2003 Mitsubishi Galant on the 600 block of Heritage Drive was broken into overnight Oct. 27-28; a radar detector and cell phone were stolen. Total loss was estimated at $600.

• Burglars broke into a Nissan Quest on the 500 block of Mesa Drive between 6 p.m. Oct. 27 and 6 a.m. Oct. 28 and took a GPS unit; total loss was estimated at $460.

Schaumburg

• Around $13,500 worth of rubber flapper check valves was stolen around 10:50 a.m. Oct. 29 from a plant on Wright Boulevard, by a man who pretended to be a delivery driver for a company called "Acme." No one at the plant saw paperwork; each person who talked to him assumed someone else had given him permission to take the valves. He drove away in a red Ford pickup truck.

• Someone entered a home on the 600 block of Huntington Court through an unlocked patio door 12:30-3 a.m. Oct. 27 while the family was asleep upstairs. No one was injured but the intruder stole a video game system and 10 video games, worth about $500 altogether. Someone tried to use a credit card at a Shell gas station around 3:50 a.m., but the card was rejected because no PIN was given.

• Sarah Jean Scholl, 27, 25 N. Seebert St., Cary, and Patrick Henry Widmayer, 39, 1488 N. Driftwood, Palatine, were arrested around 7:35 p.m. Oct. 28 at a massage business on the 1300 block of Wiley Road after police say Scholl offered an undercover officer a sexual act for money. Scholl was charged with prostitution; Widmayer was charged with keeping a place of prostitution and two counts harassment by telephone. Their court date is Dec. 2.

• Police are investigating the disappearance of $1,000 worth of doll house figurines from a home on the 400 block of Forest Court 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 20. The homeowner told police she discovered the 25 figurines missing after two men from a furnace cleaning service were inside; the figurines were stored near the furnace.
