With the help of witnesses who identified his car and license plate, police Thursday arrested a 26-year-old West Dundee man suspected in a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist hospitalized in intensive care.

Jose Tabon, 510 Lincoln Ave., faces charges of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, obstructing justice and more stemming from the collision at 3:26 p.m. Wednesday in West Dundee.

The charges allege Tabon was behind the wheel of a silver Honda Civic when it struck a 42-year-old Carpentersville woman as she rode westbound on Huntley Road 300 feet west of Tartans Drive.

The driver, witnesses told police, made a quick U-turn on Huntley Road and sped off southbound on Tartans Drive.

Witnesses reported his license plate number to West Dundee police who then tracked the vehicle to Tabon and arrested him Thursday at his place of employment in Hoffman Estates.

The victim was taken from the scene by paramedics to Sherman Hospital. She remained there in the intensive-care unit Thursday with nonlife-threatening injuries, West Dundee Police Sgt. Anthony Gorski said.

Tabon was expected to be held overnight Thursday in the West Dundee lockup and is scheduled to appear at a Friday morning bond hearing.

The most serious charge against him, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, is a felony punishable by one to three years in prison.
