Gurnee

• Two men stole jewelry valued at $1,300 around 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at a home on the 3900 block of Route 132, police said. According to reports, one man distracted the homeowners while the second man stole the jewelry. One man was described as 6 feet tall, 180 pounds, medium brown skin, black hair and mustache, sideburns and thick eyebrows, and wearing a blue leather fur bomber cap and a blue shiny cloth coat, reports said. The men left in a dark blue or black minivan, reports added.

• Thieves stole a blue jean purse with $500 and 54 tablets of Oxycontin pain medication around 5 p.m. Jan. 19 from a woman in the Salvation Army store, 3559 Route 132, police said. Value of the purse and medication was not available.

• Michael H. Cohen, 44, 1917 Country Drive, Apt. 304, Grayslake, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Jan. 20 and charged with battery. He is accused of strangling a 28-year-old man in an argument over a football game at Monkey Dish Bar and Grill, 5572 Route 132, police said. The victim was able to escape and officers were called, police said. A court date was not available.

Island Lake

• Thieves stole a statue Jan. 13 out of the front yard at a home on the 700 block of Nantucket Way, police said. Value was estimated at $200.

Lake Zurich

• Vandals scratched a vehicle around 8:50 p.m. Jan. 16 parked on the 700 block of West Main Street, police said. Damage was estimated at $500.

Mundelein

• Nahum Vargas, 20, 1713 Dorchester Drive, Mundelein, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Jan. 16 and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, and unlawful use of a weapon after an officer stopped the car he was riding in and reported finding him with 6 grams of cocaine, 2 grams of marijuana and a switchblade knife. A court date was not available.

Round Lake

• William A. Freeman, 45, 1427 Beverly Drive, Round Lake Beach, was arrested around 3 p.m. Jan. 7 and charged with disorderly conduct after a disturbance on the 800 block of Long Lake Road. He is accused of displaying obscene gestures. His Round Lake Beach court date was set for Feb. 26.

Vernon Hills

• Oscar Orellana, 43, 424 South Ave., Waukegan, was arrested Jan. 12 and charged with retail theft and unlawful possession of a theft detection device at Sears in Westfield Hawthorn. He is accused of taking electronic equipment, cologne and miscellaneous merchandise. Total value was estimated at $106. A court date was not available.

• Brittany M. Walker, 22, 245 N. Garfield Ave., Mundelein, was arrested Jan. 14 and charged with theft. She is accused of fraudulently activating a gift card at Target, 313 Townline Road. Total value was estimated at $160. Her Waukegan court date was set for Jan. 30.

Wauconda

• Vandals smashed a mailbox Jan. 14 at a home on the 600 block of Sheridan Drive, police said. A damage estimate was not available.
