Chicago White Sox outright Banuelos, Cordell, Goins, Skole
Before they can begin adding better players when the free-agent signing period opens next week, the Chicago White Sox have to make some roster subtractions.
Outfielder Charlie Tilson was removed from the 40-man roster on Oct. 3, and the Sox shipped four more players to Class AAA Charlotte on Monday.
Left-handed pitcher Manny Banuelos, outfielder Ryan Cordell, infielder Ryan Goins and first baseman Matt Skole were outrighted, reducing the White Sox's 40-man roster to 35.
At the end of the World Series, all five players will become minor-league free agents.
Battling a shoulder injury for much of his lone season with the Sox, Banuelos was 3-4 with a 6.92 ERA in 16 games (8 starts).
Cordell, acquired in a July 26, 2017, trade from the Milwaukee Brewers for reliever Anthony Swarzak, played in 116 games with the White Sox the past two seasons and batted .205 with 8 home runs and 28 RBI.
Signed as a free agent last December after playing for the Blue Jays and Royals, Goins hit .250 with 2 homers and 10 RBI in 52 games this season after coming up from Charlotte.
Skole, who also spent most of the year at Triple-A, batted .208 and had 6 RBI in 27 games with the Sox.
