Davidson back on power trip with White Sox

Matt Davidson is back in the swing of things.

The Chicago White Sox's third baseman was on a power tear at the end of July, hitting home runs three times in four games to close the month.

On Aug. 1, Toronto starter Marcus Stroman hit Davidson with a pitch on his right wrist, and the 26-year-old slugger wound up going on the disabled list.

Davidson returned to the Sox's lineup Saturday and had a pair of singles in 4 at-bats.

In Sunday's 7-1 win over the Tigers at Guaranteed Rate Field, Davidson broke the game open in the third inning with a 3-run homer.

"It was good to be back out there, hit another home run and have another win," Davidson said after clearing the fences for the 23rd time this season. "It felt pretty good. Excited to be back out there and playing with the team."

Davidson had only one rehab game with Class AAA Charlotte. When Yoan Moncada (shin splints) landed on the DL Friday, he rushed back to join the White Sox.

"There's soreness, but there's no more pain," Davidson said. "That's something I can totally deal with. The biggest thing that took so long was that the pain was just on every swing. Once that subsided, we play through aches and pains all year long so as long as it's sore, it's no big deal. Good thing the pain's gone."

Delmonico dealing with injury:

Nicky Delmonico is facing his first adversity since joining the White Sox from AAA Charlotte on Aug. 1.

Opposing pitchers weren't able to slow down the rookie left fielder, but one routine swing wound up putting Delmonico on the disabled list with a sprained right wrist.

"It is (frustrating)," Delmonico said. "Nothing I can do but try to treat it as much as I can and get ready to get back out there."

In Thursday night's game against the Twins, Delmonico took a swing during his third at-bat and "just didn't feel comfortable."

He stayed in the game and hit one more time, but the wrist felt even worse on Friday morning, sending Delmonico to the DL.

"I've never felt anything like this," he said. "It kind of scared me but luckily the MRI and the X-ray turned out good."

Delmonico is batting .307 with 6 home runs and 12 RBI while reaching base safely in 21 of his first 22 games with the Sox.

"Delmonico's results have been good," manager Rick Renteria said. "His approaches have been really good."
