Special 14th District election voting to start

Although the Feb. 5 primary election has yet to be certified, voting already is under way in another election.

Citizens who aren't registered to vote in the 14th Congressional District are registering and voting at the same time. Grace period registration, which began last week, goes through Saturday.

Early and absentee voting begins Friday for the March 8 special election. Republican Jim Oberweis and Democrat Bill Foster are battling to fulfill the remaining months of retired U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert's term.

The winner of the special election will remain in office until early 2009. Oberweis and Foster also are running in the Nov. 4 general election for a separate 2-year term to begin in early 2009.

Early voting takes place at the Kane County clerk's office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., building B, Geneva, and 20 other locations throughout Kane County, including government buildings. The "votemobile" bus will be stationed at grocery stores and other locations throughout the county.

A list of early voting locations soon will be posted at KaneCountyElections.org.

Although March 8 falls on a Saturday, the polls will still be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., just as they are on every Election Day. Citizens should vote at their regular poll locations.
