Cause of early morning fire at Carol Stream recycling plant unknown
Investigators are still trying to determine what caused an early morning fire at an electronics recycling plant in Carol Stream.
Firefighters were called to the plant on the 500 block of Kehoe Boulevard just before 4:30 a.m. for reports of smoke outside the building.
Once inside the building, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 20 minutes, but some machinery suffered significant damage that rendered it "unusable," fire officials said.
Fire officials also noted that fire detection and suppression equipment inside the plant had been activated, which likely helped keep the fire from spreading and allow some operations of the recycling plant to continue.
Firefighters remained on scene for nearly two hours performing salvage operations and checking for hot spots.
No injuries were reported.
