At least 4 Batavia aldermen not seeking reelection
There will be plenty of new faces on the Batavia City Council after next spring's municipal elections.
At least four incumbent aldermen, as well as City Clerk Ellen Posledni, will not be seeking reelection on April 6.
First Ward Alderman Michael O'Brien, 2nd Ward Alderman Marty Callahan, 3rd Ward Alderman Elliot Meitzler and 7th Ward Alderman Drew McFadden said they are not running again.
Meanwhile, 6th Ward Alderman Nick Cerone said he has yet to decide if he will seek another term on the council. Fourth Ward Alderman Tony Malay could not be reached for comment concerning his intentions.
Fifth Ward Alderman Mark Uher is seeking reelection, while Limestone Coffee & Tea co-owner Leah Leman is running for the 2nd Ward aldermanic seat now occupied by Callahan.
First Ward Alderman Jennifer Baerren, who was appointed to the city council a year ago, said she will seek election in her own right but has yet to decide whether she will run for a 2-year or a 4-year term.
Posledni, who was elected city clerk four years ago in an unopposed write-in campaign, said she is stepping down because her business is growing and taking more of her time.
Batavia Library Board member Kate Garrett is running to succeed Posledni, who is supporting Garrett's election bid.
Garrett, whose library board term runs to 2022, indicated that if elected city clerk, she would resign from her library board seat.
Mayor Jeff Schielke, who has occupied the city's top office since 1981, will be seeking an eleventh term.
