Gurnee craft beer fest canceled due to chilly forecast

The Legions of Craft Beer Festival scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 in Gurnee has been canceled due to freezing temperatures in the forecast, organizers have announced.

The organizing committee is exploring options to host the event in 2020.

The festival started in 2015 as a fundraising opportunity for the Gurnee American Legion Post 771 and Lake County Honor Flight. The first four years have raised more $90,000 for local veterans organizations.

"Our primary concern is the safety and comfort of our visitors, our volunteers and the brewery representatives attending the Fest," Legions of Craft Beer Fest event coordinator Jack Linehan said in an announcement of the cancellation. "With temperatures uncharacteristically cold, even for early November, we are not confident that we can host a successful fifth year of the event that meets the expectations of attendees and event sponsors."

Anyone who has purchased tickets for the 2019 event will be refunded through Six Flags Great America's ticketing system.
