Nobody hurt in fire that damages unoccupied Wheaton house

No one was injured in a house fire in Wheaton Saturday afternoon, officials said.

The Wheaton Fire Department was called to a home on the 1300 block of E. Evergreen St. about 12:30 p.m., according to a news release from city.

The fire found in the living room and crawl space of the single-family house was under control within 15 minutes, the release said. The building was under renovation and unoccupied, but the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages.

An investigation found the fire was accidental and had been caused by staining materials that hadn't been properly disposed of, according to the release. The home currently is uninhabitable, officials said.
