Man charged with gun crime after brief chase in Palatine

A 26-year-old Dolton man who led Palatine police on a brief foot chase Saturday night was charged with a litany of crimes after police found a loaded .40 caliber Glock pistol with an extended high capacity magazine in his car Saturday night, authorities said.

Torrey D. White, of the 14700 block of Indiana Ave., was charged with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, misdemeanor reckless driving, misdemeanor attempting to elude a police officer, misdemeanor resisting a peace officer and various traffic offenses, according to a news release issued Tuesday.

A Palatine police officer said he saw White driving recklessly just before 11 p.m. on Saturday and attempted to pull him over. After a short pursuit, White stopped the car and began running away from the officer, according to reports. After a short foot chase the driver was taken into custody.

The pistol White was in possession of was reported stolen in Chicago in 2017, according to Palatine police.

A Cook County judge set bail for White at $20,000 and ordered that he be assigned electronic monitoring until his next court date on July 20.
