Pihos banned from Von Maur after pleading guilty to retail theft

A six-term state legislator from Glen Ellyn is no longer allowed in the Lombard Von Maur store as part of a plea agreement she entered Monday, the same day she was to stand trial.

Former Republican Rep. Sandra Pihos, 71, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of retail theft and was sentenced by Judge Alex McGimpsey to one year of court supervision, 50 hours of community service with a nonprofit organization, a $200 donation to the Anti-Crime Commission and banishment from Von Maur.

Prosecutors say Pihos stole three items of female clothing valued at $571 from Von Maur in Lombard's Yorktown Shopping Center in September 2017.

The Lombard police report obtained via a Freedom of Information request was largely redacted.

But authorities said Pihos returned to the store that same day and attempted to return the stolen items for cash or store credit.

Pihos served in the General Assembly from January 2003 to January 2015. During that time she served on many committees, including one focused on consumer protection, and was four times named the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association's Illinois Legislator of the Year.

Before serving in the legislature, she worked as an elementary and middle school teacher, a gifted and special education teacher, a high school guidance counselor, and the owner of a restaurant management firm.

Her next court date is June 3, 2019.
