Buffalo Grove teen pleads guilty to marijuana possession

One of two brothers charged last October after prosecutors say police found more than $18,000 in drugs in their Buffalo Grove home pleaded guilty Thursday in Cook County court.

Dustin Gutierrez, 19, pleaded guilty to marijuana possession in exchange for two years of TASC probation. TASC stands for Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities, an alternative to incarceration for nonviolent offenders that requires them to undergo substance abuse and mental health evaluations and receive treatment if necessary.

He also was ordered to pay $1,339 in fines, court records show.

Charges are pending against his brother, Martin Gutierrez, 23. He next appears in court July 2.

According to prosecutors, police officers executed a search warrant at the brothers' home on Oct. 17, after neighbors reported drug transactions took place there.

Officers recovered about 1,000 grams of marijuana, 1 gram of cocaine, 12 pills believed to be Adderall, a prescription medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and about $2,600 in cash, among other items, prosecutors said.
