Police: East Dundee man pointed gun at cop during road rage incident on I-90
A 28-year-old East Dundee man faces a felony weapons charge after authorities said he pointed a loaded gun at an off-duty police officer in a road rage incident in Chicago.
Illinois State Police arrested Charles R. Peterson on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony, and misdemeanor aggravated assault stemming from the altercation at about 6:21 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 90 at Nagle Avenue.
According to state police, an off-duty Chicago police officer reported that a man riding in a gray Honda passenger vehicle on westbound I-90 brandished a handgun after the vehicle cut off the officer in traffic.
State police troopers located the Honda, pulled it over and arrested Peterson, authorities said.
Troopers found a loaded handgun in the car's center console, along with a loaded magazine nearby, state police said.
Peterson had a valid forearm owners identification card and concealed carry license at the time of his arrest, authorities say.
Information about Peterson's bond and court date were not available Monday.
