Zoo-Topia: Singing, dancing and learning at Cantigny Park

Kids visiting Cantigny Park in Wheaton earlier this week got a chance to engage in songs and musical activities aimed at helping them learn about their favorite zoo animals.

The Kid Rock's Zoo-Topia program combined child-friendly rhythm instruments and movement props with a lot of imagination play and motor skills.

Diana Van Hauter of Algonquin-based Rock'N Kids led youngsters and their parents and grandparents in zoo-themed songs during the 45-minute session. One of the highlights for kids: Shaking simulated kangaroos represented by balls on a parachute.

"It's just a really fun way for the kids to come out and use their imaginations and do some dancing, movement, and meet new friends," Van Hauter said.

Angela Garcia of Lisle brought her 19 month-old daughter, Aryana Garcia, to the class.

"This is a great class for tots," Garcia said. "They had such a great time playing music and dancing and I know that music is so great for educational learning and for brain development, so it's fun and educational."
