No injuries in Lombard apartment fire

No injuries were reported when a lightning strike triggered a fire at a Lombard apartment building near the intersection of Main Street and St. Charles Road, authorities said Tuesday.

Firefighters said residents reported hearing a loud boom about 7:10 a.m. Monday and smoke appeared shortly thereafter. Firefighters believe lightning struck the building's masonry chimney.

All residents were safely evacuated. Damage to the building was estimated at $30,000.

Lombard firefighters were assisted by crews from Downers Grove, Wheaton, Villa Park, Oak Brook, Lisle-Woodridge, York Center and Oakbrook Terrace.
